Here is the first image I decided to edit in Photoshop in the hope of using it for my Front Page. I felt this would be an appropriate image to use as it was framed well, however I didn't feel it was lit appropriately and decided to slightly desaturate the image. The flare from the streetlight has also been removed to show a plain black background. The colour of the Headphones and the Red shirt have been enhanced, the eyes of both the models have been changed and tattoos have been added to both models. Finally I used a faded black brush to fade the models into the black background which I think is a nice effect for the image. By looking at the edited image however, I don't feel that it will be appropriate for use on the front page of my magazine. I plan on doing another edit of this image in the hope to making it a more appropriate piece to use.
This is the second image I began to play around with in Photoshop. I haven't edited this image to the same extent as I have done with the first picture, the main changes I did where to the contrast and the levels of the picture. However I also used a faded black brush to get rid of the lights in the bottom left hand corner of the image, and used the Spot Healing brush and the Red Eye tool on both of my models. I think this is a strong image, its much brighter and clearer than the first edit and is still framed well with space around the edge for the title, coverlines and other graphic elements. I feel this could be an appropriate image for use as a front page.
Another image I've been working on is this one. I did similar work on this image as I did on the one above this, changing mainly the contrast and the levels. I didn't Spot Heal the models in this image and there was no need to use the Red Eye tool either. However I did use a faded black brush (again) to get rid of the flare from the streetlight above my models head. This shot is classified as a low-angle shot that makes the audience feel intimidated by the models, it gives them a dominance over the reader. I think this is an appropriate effect for a Metal Magazine as it links with the powerful music of the genre. The image is also framed well with enough space for a title and other graphic elements, and in my opinion this is an appropriate image to use for my Front Page. This is a strong candidate for the final image of the Front Page.
Here is the fourth edit I did, and this one is with a different batch of pictures (same model though...) I was going for a more Eyeline shot, Close Up for a Front Page photo. In Photoshop I sharpened the image using a filter and cut the model out from the background. I tried to keep hold of the grey colour for the main background though, and went for the sort of classy look of a copy of XXL magazine. I didn't Spot Heal this image either and with no flash from the camera I didn't need to use the Red Eye tool, and neither did I use the Faded black brush I used on all my other edits. I did apply an Outer Glow and a Drop Shadow on the model though, which I feel work well for the image. However, as good as this image looks I don't think its the image I'm going for with my magazine, and I am more likely to go with a different image to this one (sorry miss...).
I told you it would be back! This is the Fifth edit I have done on one of my pictures, although it is the same picture as the first I edited. This time I haven't used images of tattoos and warped them to fit my models, nor have I changed the colour of my models eye's. I have subjected this picture to the same style of editing as I have done with all my others (excluding the Fourth edit), Faded Black Brush, Spot Healing, Brightness and Contrast and Levels. Looking at the way the image is now, I feel it is a Strong Candidate for my Front Cover, and I hope I will be able to use it for my coursework.
